The mission of the One Black Men of Long Island, Inc. is to improve the quality of life within our communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for underserved constituencies

We seek to serve as a beacon of leadership, through mentoring, by utilizing our diverse talents to create environments where our children are motivated to achieve, and to empower our people to become self-sufficient shareholders in the economic and social fabric of the communities we serve.

We’re committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African American and surrounding communities based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity.


Our History

The One Black Men of Long Island Chapter was established in 1974, and incorporated in the same year as a non-profit organization. The organization's mission is to improve the quality of life in Nassau-Suffolk Counties. The membership of OHBMLI is composed of men who demonstrate excellence in a broad range of professional endeavors.

On January 28, 2022, the One Black Men of Long Island, Inc. Board of Directors unanimously voted to resign from membership and affiliation with the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. – an organization where it maintained active membership from 1986 – 2022. During the period of affiliation with the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., the 100 Black Men of Long Island, Inc. consistently provided talent and thought leadership to an evolving organization. With a renewed focus on community leadership and closer association among members, the One Black Men of Long Island, Inc. is committed to engagement in the greater New York City metropolitan area.
